Murmansk Winter Expedition: Day #7

Petrozavodsk is a backwater in which there is nothing interesting. You can spend half a day here. And go on.
We stayed here for the night, only because of cheap accommodation.
But once we arrived here, we wanted to see Lake Onega from close by. In the port we found a four-star hotel. Who would have expected it in such a place?
For reasonable money we got coffee, good cakes and local, karelian cakes. One of them was stuffed with potatoes.

In the port we found ourselves in a souvenir shop, offering handicraft better than a typical stall bar.

For us it was worth going to the promenade.

On the whole promenade public wifi, and every few dozen meters relatively modern sculptures.

The sculpture “Fishermen”, donated by an American sculptor from the twin town of Duluth in Minnesota, is particularly striking.

At the sculpture there is a direct descent to the lake, now ice-bound.

On the way back to the parking lot we can see in the bushes a monument to Tsar Peter the First.

Going further we gave up listening to Hugo-Bader’s White Fever and we are still without a book that would help us better understand Russia.
